Where you will be working

Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the southern half of NSW. Surrounding the ACT on three sides and all the way down to the Victorian border, it extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. We have 18 facilities and our hospitals take care of more than 200,000 people. As we are a major local employer, our staff are a part of our local communities. 

At Murrumbidgee Local Health District we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina and Murray regions of New South Wales across a geographic area of approximately 125,631 square kilometres.  With around 241,000 residents living within our District we employ approximately 3,500 staff who work in our 31 facilities and support services.  Our facilities include a Rural Referral Hospital, Base and District Hospitals, Multi-Purpose Services and Community Health Facilities.

What you'll be doing

The Oral Health Clinical Director is responsible for the clinical governance, leadership and strategic direction for the Oral Health Service in Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) and Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD).

The position oversight to ensure that the service is delivered in compliance with all clinical aspects of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.

Your Opportunity:

  • Professional responsibility with regard to strategic workforce and service development and professional practice across both LHD's, whilst ensuring appropriate mentoring and supervision across both LHD's for all clinical staff.
  • Deliver professional clinical leadership to the SNSWLHD and MLHD Oral Health Clinic Network including oversight of clinical quality, education, training, research and development for all staff.
  • Provide clinical input and undertaking relevant investigations of clinical complaints as required.
  • Undertake regular review and update of policies, procedures and guidelines for the service to ensure compliance with national, state and local relevant clinical legislation, policies and standards.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the outcomes of services provided and ensure their quality, efficiency and effectiveness in meeting the eligible population's needs and service objectives.
  • Work with the Oral Health Manager to maximise patient throughput and ensure appropriate patient flow and efficient delivery of service.
  • Work collaboratively with the education providers for dentistry and oral health together with the private dental practitioners participating in the Oral Health Fee for Service Scheme and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
  • Maintain a clinical and teaching role through the provision of clinical dental services as a Dental Officer to maintain clinical skills and contribute to the clinical care of the patients who access the Oral Health Service.
  • Participate in and chair relevant District committees responsible for the clinical governance and oversight of Oral Health including but not limited to the Safety and Quality Committee, associated sub committees and other relevant committees that require oral health representation including state-based meetings.


Selection Criteria:

  1. Registered Dentist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  2. Extensive experience and high-level competence in general dentistry, including highly developed skills in the management of complex clinical cases; and a proven track record for leading mentoring, and clinical supervision programs covering students on placement through to experienced staff or visiting practitioners.
  3. Demonstrated capacity to successfully lead a diverse range of clinical staff in the delivery of high quality, well-integrated and comprehensive health services.
  4. Relevant high-level experience in providing policy advice, policy and audit development and implementation; together with comprehensive understanding and proven track record in leading National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHSS) activity across multiple clinics or departments.
  5. Demonstrated experience as part of a senior management team engaged in service delivery, with high level interpersonal, negotiation, communication, complaint and performance issues resolution skills.
  6. Strong knowledge and understanding of national and state oral health strategic directions and contemporary operation of public dental services; with demonstrated commitment to the underlying principles of the NSW Priority Oral Health Program, a population approach to oral health and to a well developed program of clinical governance.
  7. Highly developed time management, communication and organisational skills including adept use of technology including administrative information systems (Microsoft Office), clinical information systems and digital technology to support clinical practice.
  8. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers' licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
