Southern NSWLHD comprises of 2 Networks - Inlands centred around Goulburn, Monaro, Queanbeyan and Cooma, AND Coastal centered around Bega, Batemans Bay and Moruya in the far south-east corner of NSW and the Integrated Care Network.

Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the Southern half of NSW. Surrounding the ACT on three sides and all the way down to the Victorian border, it extends from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Great Dividing Range and the spectacular Snowy Mountains. Your Opportunity:

  • Lead a group of specialty senior medical clinicians to provide expert medical advice, leadership and management for cancer services across the SNSWLHD District.

  • Provide high level and strategic clinical advice to the Local Health District (LHD) Board, Executive, Local Health District (LHD) Senior Managers and clinicians.

  • Work collaboratively with LHD managers and clinicians to assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of patient safety and quality programs across the District including providing expert advice and input into clinical policy and guidance as well as assist in managing incidents, harms, individual and systems issues across the relevant specialties.

  • Providing coaching and mentoring support for other clinicians and teams in managing and improving clinical services including quality improvement. This may require site visits across SNSWLHD as well as virtual support.

  • Active participation in the LHD Clinical Council to assist in ensuring it meets Local Health District (LHD) priority directions for improving local, LHD and NSW Cancer Institute performance and patient outcomes.

  • Contribute to service development and workforce planning initiatives. Collaborate with other medical leaders and managers in SNSWLHD and other LHDs including ACT Health to progress the development, refinement and co-ordination of service planning and delivery and systems to ensure excellence in clinical care.

  • Assist with strategic coordination and implementation of medical education, training and research across the LHD including leading the development of processes and resources (including virtual technology) to enrol eligible patients into clinical trials, including establishing relationships with tertiary clinical trials units.

  • Provide high quality, evidence based, patient focused medical oncology services to patients with solid tumour cancers primarily at the Bega Hospital, however at times, may be required to provide outreach services to other locations across the District.

     

Selection Criteria:

  1. Current Registration as a Medical Specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  2. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) with subspecialty training and experience in medical oncology.

  3. Experience in clinical leadership and management and demonstrated ability to work with local clinical teams to lead, and support development.

  4. Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive, high quality, compassionate medical oncology services and patient care.

  5. Demonstrated ability to actively improve service delivery, initiating change and consulting with those affected by change, including managing potential conflicts.

  6. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills necessary to build and maintain collaborative relationships.

  7. Commitment to clinical research, including experience in clinical trials.

  8. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.

This is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015. All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
