Where you'll be working
Join Hunter New England Local Health District, a large and diverse health district committed to delivering excellent patient care across metropolitan, regional and rural communities.
This position offers an initial 6-month placement at Tamworth Hospital Emergency Department, a busy regional referral ED providing broad clinical exposure and strong senior support. Doctors may have the opportunity to remain in Tamworth for a longer period if desired.
Following this, you will complete 18 months across Hunter New England’s metropolitan Emergency Departments (John Hunter, Belmont, Maitland and Calvary Mater Hospitals), gaining experience in high-volume tertiary and regional centres within a supportive training environment.
What you'll be doing
Provide emergency medical care to patients while developing clinical experience and expertise under the supervision of Emergency Specialists across Hunter New England Emergency Departments.
Ideal for junior doctors with at least two years postgraduate experience who want to build strong Emergency Medicine skills before entering specialist training in Emergency Medicine, critical care, General Practice, or while exploring their long-term career pathway.
You will participate in a seven-day rotating roster, including evening and night shifts, and develop proficiency in the initial assessment and management of a wide range of medical and surgical emergencies in both adult and paediatric patients.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment
- Adept ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team
- Adept written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and others members of the health care team
- Adept good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education
