We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Senior Resident Medical Officers to join the Network 8 team for the 2026 clinical year.


What you’ll be doing

 

Rotations are available in medical and surgical specialities, psychiatry, emergency, O&G, paediatrics, ICU and rural Griffith (emergency and general medicine) terms.   

 

In this role you will be part of a closely connected, multi-disciplinary team, in an environment that values compassion, clinical excellence and teaching. The hospital is known for its high-quality Medical Education and Training and has a range of education programs that RMOs are encouraged to attend. These include protected weekly catered lunchtime education sessions.

 

The primary location of the position is St George Hospital, but you may be allocated to one of the other sites in the Network which include: Sutherland Hospital, Calvary Hospital, Justice Health, Griffith Base Hospital and Kirketon Road Centre / Kings Cross Sexual Health Service.

Where you will be working

St George Hospital is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales. It is the largest hospital in SESLHD with 627 inpatient beds. It is a Level 1 Trauma Centre and a leader in trauma and emergency management in NSW. The hospital’s proximity to Sydney airport makes it a vital service, providing first response to the airport precinct.

 

The hospital is in Kogarah, 14 kilometres south of the Sydney CBD and a kilometre from Botany Bay. It is well serviced by buses, trains and major roads. The area is well known for its cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants, as well as its food and cultural markets which showcase the distinct flavours and traditions of Kogarah's multicultural community.




 

Selection Criteria

  1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Must have completed at least 2 Post Graduate years in a Hospital with a minimum of 12 months experience working as a medical officer (not observer) in an Australian Public Hospital.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement with a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team as shown by diligence, punctuality, organisational/ record keeping, time management, problem solving, empathy, teamwork, professional manner.
  5. Excellent and respectful verbal and written communication skills, ability to negotiate and proficiency in computer applications
  6. A professional attitude with flexibility to participate in afterhours overtime and on-call rosters.
  7. Willingness to work and rotate in different hospitals, including rural hospitals, within Network 8.
  8. Demonstrated evidence of continued professional development with a commitment to self-education and experience and willingness to teach junior medical staff.
