- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completed 2 Post Graduate Years
- Able to manage patients with ophthalmology conditions and trauma and attend pre-admission clinics, determine suitability for surgery, arrange appropriate tests and complete prescriptions for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
- Must be able to perform a systematic examination of the eye to diagnose injury and other conditions, including retinal examination.
- Must be able to interpret ophthalmic imaging modalities including radiographs and CT scans.
- Must be able to present an ophthalmic case history in a succinct manner to consultants.
- Understand the role of paramedical staff – orthoptists, nurses and social workers in the care and management of the ophthalmic patient.
- Develop skills to perform common ophthalmic procedures, including applanation tonometry, slit lamp examination, A and B scans.
