The Role

 

This is an exciting opportunity at an accredited surgical training hospital for a Surgical Senior Registrar, working in a supportive, structured teaching environment.  This role is in conjunction with providing services to John Flynn Private Hospital in Tugun, QLD.   
 
You will be part of a collegiate team of 10 general surgery VMOs and registrars working across a 7day roster. You will have access to weekly education sessions and mentorship from consultants with an open-door policy to assist in developing your surgical proficiency.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Tweed Valley Hospital, your primary work location and a new, major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region, also including Murwillumbah District & Byron Central Hospitals.  The 723.3 million state-of-the-art hospital opened on 14 May 2024 and will deliver additional health services and bed capacity to meet the growing community's healthcare needs.

What you'll be doing
 

The General and Breast Senior Registrar will be exposed to the full array of breast procedures including: Breast cancer surgery, benign breast conditions and breast reconstructions. This will also include significant exposure to emergency general surgery. The Breast Senior Registrar will be responsible for the provision of independent and effective medical care of surgical patients under the supervision of specialist staff.  The Senior Registrar will also be responsible for assisting with triage referrals to clinics as well as the follow up of relevant imaging and biopsy results.  You will also be required to participate in the on call roster. 
 
  1. MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Minimum five years post graduate experience with previous experience in General Surgery. Applicants are required to have obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) before they can be considered for appointment
  3. Sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to practice as a safe and competent senior registrar
  4. Teamwork and leadership skills
  5. Excellent time management and organisational skills
  6. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  7. Experience in teaching both undergraduate & postgraduate students
