Where You’ll Be Working
District Pharmacy Services is a small, friendly team of pharmacists supporting medication safety, quality use of medicines, and pharmacy education across Hunter New England Local Health District. The team works collaboratively with clinical services, governance teams and technology partners to drive safer medication practices across the district.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to major digital and safety initiatives across HNELHD, working alongside clinicians, biomedical engineers, ICT specialists and governance teams.


About the Role
This is a newly established, district-wide position focused on improving medication safety through the implementation of smart infusion technology.

The role will initially support several key projects in preparation for the rollout of the Single Digital Patient Record. A major focus will be leading the development and implementation of a district-wide smart infusion pump drug library, working closely with the Biomedical Technology team to introduce smart infusion devices into clinical areas across HNELHD.

You’ll collaborate with pharmacy, nursing, medical, biomedical engineering and ICT teams to design, test and implement systems that support safer intravenous medication administration. The position will also contribute to governance frameworks, education initiatives and ongoing evaluation of smart pump performance and medication safety outcomes.

This role offers the chance to lead meaningful change, influence medication safety practices across multiple sites, and be part of a large-scale digital transformation in healthcare.


About You
You’ll thrive in this role if you are:

  • A registered pharmacist with AHPRA, with hospital clinical pharmacy experience.
  • Experienced in quality improvement, service redesign, or clinical safety initiatives.
  • Interested in health technology, digital systems, or medication safety innovation.
  • A strong communicator who can engage and collaborate with a wide range of clinical and technical stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, able to manage projects, meet deadlines and balance competing priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.

Experience with smart infusion pumps, IV medication safety, or digital health implementations would be highly regarded.


Support

You will be supported by pharmacists within District Pharmacy Services and across the HNELHD network. The role has close access to the team’s Pharmacist Educator, and you will complete a comprehensive orientation program including corporate orientation and online learning.

This supportive environment will help you build your expertise in medication safety, digital health and system-wide service improvement.


Requirements

  • Registered Pharmacist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and at least 3 years of post-registration hospital experience.

  • Current unrestricted drivers license and ability to drive.
