Our Community Mental Health (CMH) Team is dedicated to creating a supportive environment where staff are empowered to thrive.

Achieve Something Great
The Macarthur Safeguards Team is seeking an experienced Senior Peer Support Worker to bring lived experience expertise into a, community-based child and adolescent mental health service. Safeguards supports children and young people aged 0–17 experiencing acute mental distress, providing timely assessment, brief interventions, and coordinated care to help stabilise crises and strengthen ongoing supports.

As a Senior Peer Support Worker, you will play a key role in delivering recovery-oriented, trauma-informed peer support to young people and their families, both face-to-face and via telehealth. Guided by the Elevating Lived Experience Expertise Framework, you will model hope, share recovery strategies, promote social inclusion, and support young people to navigate mental health services and community supports. This senior role also contributes to the leadership, mentoring, and supervision of peer workers, supporting the growth and integration of lived experience practice within the Safeguards service and the broader Mental Health Service.

Are You the Right Fit?
The ideal candidate is a skilled and values-driven peer professional with lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, and a strong commitment to ethical peer practice. You bring a deep understanding of recovery-oriented care, the ability to build trust and rapport with children, adolescents, and families, and confidence working within multidisciplinary clinical teams.

You will thrive in this role if you have:

  • Demonstrated experience providing direct peer support, advocacy, and recovery-focused interventions
  • The ability to role model hope, resilience, and self-determination through intentional use of lived experience
  • Leadership capability, including experience supporting, supervising, or mentoring peer workers
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to navigate mental health systems and community services
  • A commitment to collaborative practice, reflective supervision, and continuous service improvement

This role suits someone who is passionate about embedding lived experience leadership within child and youth mental health, and who is motivated to support both individual recovery journeys and the development of the peer workforce.
