Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Workforce Manager - POWH Medical Workforce Unit
The Role

The purpose of this position is to effectively provide leadership and management of the recruitment, credentialing, and appointment process of Senior Medical Officers (SMO) within Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) and associated business units. The position reports to the Operations Manager – Medical Workforce Unit. The Medical Workforce Unit is responsible for the management of all Medical Workforce across the sector and undertakes all aspects of employment lifecycle management including recruitment and human resource management, financial management and general administration including medical staff information management, accreditation and training requirements, and other responsibilities as delegated.
This position is responsible for managing the compliance of SMO recruitment, appointment, and credentialing processes at POWH in accordance with Ministry of Health (MOH) and SESLHD policies and procedures. This position is responsible for managing the recruitment process and accurately compiling the documentation requirements for Senior Medical Officer appointments in accordance with established LHD procedures for submission of appointment to the Medical Dental Appointments Approval Committee (MDAAC). This includes new appointments, existing appointments, change of privileges, change of appointment details, regrade and managerial allowances for Staff Specialists, Visiting Medical Practitioners, Clinical Academics, and Postgraduate Fellows.
This position works closely with the District Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Unit who manage the overall compliance and approval process for Senior Medical appointments including management processes of the MDAAC committee. meeting and contract management.
This role also provides on-site support of the TESL claiming process, SMO mandatory training and orientation plans, and directly manages the SMO Workforce Officer.
This position is required to work closely with all units within the Medical Workforce team in implementing strategic initiatives designed to maintain and improve medical workforce administrative functions.

Prince of Wales Hospital and Community Health Service is a Level 6 Tertiary Referral Hospital with an inpatient bed base of 370. Selection criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in human resource management or relevant equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with an ability to interpret awards, agreements and employment legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to perform a range of management and administrative tasks, monitoring and managing work priorities and adjusting workflow as required to achieve required outcomes.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Senior Medical Officer awards and policy directives with the ability to interpret and provide advice on employment conditions.
- Demonstrated high level of attention to detail with an ability to quickly and accurately identify and escalate significant issues as they arise, particularly in recruitment and appointment processes.
- Demonstrated effective time management skills, with the ability to prioritise workload to meet conflicting deadlines.
Excellent organisation and communication skills and the ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and meet strict deadlines.
