About the Opportunity 

Hunter New England Local Health District is seeking a Security Officer to provide a prompt and efficient security and emergency response service throughout the Calvary Mater Hospital and HNELHD Mental Health Centre, Waratah, and its buildings and grounds. The role is focused on maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors. 

The security service is focused on the protection of persons and minimising property loss and/or damage, with security services provided in accordance with relevant policies and procedures. 

About the Role 

As a Security Officer, you will: 

  • Provide for the security, safety and protection of all staff, patients and visitors to campus as per the Safe Working Practices and in accordance with all relevant policies and procedures. 
  • Monitor and control access to campus buildings and grounds in accordance with campus policies and procedures. 
  • Conduct routine testing of alarms and security equipment required by security policy. 
  • Respond and provide assistance to staff and visitors who may be confronted by aggressive person(s) as per established Safe Working Practices and Code Black Procedures. 
  • Ensure incident reports are completed following response to any emergency, critical incident or breaches of security. 
  • Undertake any Security/Administrative duties as directed by Security management. 
  • Assist in enforcing the smoke free environment policy of HNE Health. 
  • Act in accordance with the HNE Health Values Charter and NSW Health Code of Conduct; model behaviours that reflect the Excellence Framework (Every Patient, Every Time); and ensure work is conducted in a manner that demonstrates values of cultural respect in accordance with HNE Health's Closing the Gap strategy. 
  • Take reasonable care that acts and omissions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others, comply with reasonable instructions and workplace health and safety policies/procedures, and notify managers of hazards, risks or incidents. 

The key challenge of the role is to provide a comprehensive security service within a constantly changing environment

You will work closely with staff, patients and visitors to provide customer service; Facility Management to report security incidents on campus; clinical staff to assist with patient care; and Emergency Services to liaise with and assist Emergency Services. 

About You 

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience providing security and customer service within a hospital environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work positively in a team environment and to perform duties and tasks with minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Undertaking and flexibility to work a 24/7 roster, able to work 10.5-hour shifts commencing at 20:30 and finishing at 07:00 across a seven-day roster including weekends and public holidays. 
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate and legible security reports in an efficient manner using site-based computer systems. 
  • Proven experience in communicating and responding to challenging and aggressive situations such as distressed persons, demonstrating empathy, integrity and resilience under various circumstances. 
  • Must hold NSW 1A Security Licence; and a current relevant First Aid Certificate. 
  • Demonstrated experience with a sound understanding of alarm systems, access control system, CCTV and Fire Indication panels.
