What you'll be doing
This purpose of this position is to provide specialist inpatient and outpatient clinical psychology services to the Department of Adolescent Medicine, Complex Adolescent Clinic at the Children’s Hospital Westmead.
The Department of Adolescent Medicine Complex Adolescent Clinic (CAC) is a unique tertiary/quaternary medical service for adolescents with complex and chronic medical conditions. This includes; chronic pain syndromes, post viral fatigue syndromes, complications of chronic illness, functional disorders, poor adherence to treatment and complex psychosocial situation. Adolescents referred have associated poor levels of functioning, poor levels of school participation, unsuccessful outpatient or inpatient treatment with paediatricians, subspecialists and community mental health services
The position of Clinical Psychologist will provide;
- Evidence-based psychological care to adolescents and their families.
- Expert psychology input to the multidisciplinary clinical team regarding strategies for assessment and management of psychological issues.
- Research, teaching and supervision activities to the clinical team as needed.
The Clinical Psychologist will fulfil a range of clinical, administrative, professional, teaching/training, and quality/research responsibilities, as outlined in the Key Accountabilities. They will abide by the hospital code of conduct and participate in annual performance reviews.
The Department of Adolescent Medicine has a number of multi-disciplinary clinical teams. The Clinical Psychologist may be required to work in any of the teams, according to service needs as determined by the Head of Department.
About you
We’re looking for someone who:
- Completion of 2 year (minimum) full time equivalent accredited postgraduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology.
- Full registration with the AHPRA Psychology Board of Australia, with Clinical Psychology endorsement, or eligibility to progress to the same.
- Experience in psychological assessment and treatment of adolescents and their families with complex and/or chronic illness presentations
- Training and experience in research methods including design, ethics preparation, data analysis and reporting.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Applicants currently enrolled in a combined Masters/PhD are eligible to apply if they have completed the equivalent of Masters degree requirements as part of the PhD pathway. Evidence of this is demonstrated by a completed PDEC-76 form and cover letter from the University confirming Masters degree requirements have been met.
Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed an accredited Masters degree and are awaiting their graduation ceremony. Written confirmation from the University is required.
Successful applicants who have completed the Masters degree or Masters degree requirements and are awaiting full registration from the Psychology Board of Australia will be paid at Year 2 of the Psychologist Scale until they have full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia, at which point they will commence on Year 1 of the Clinical Psychologist scale
