Where You’ll Be Working

Gloucester Soldiers Memorial Hospital (GSMH) is part of the Lower Mid North Coast Sector within Hunter New England Local Health District and provides essential acute healthcare services to the Gloucester community. The hospital offers a close-knit, supportive environment with 14 acute inpatient beds (Roma Ward), three Emergency Department beds, and a 12-chair Day Stay Unit.

Roma Ward is a combined acute medical and surgical ward, working closely with a busy Emergency Department, Operating Theatre, and Community Health Centre. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Assistants in Nursing, General Practitioners, Visiting Medical Officers, and Allied Health professionals, all committed to delivering high-quality care in a rural setting.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse, you will provide comprehensive care to patients within the ward and Emergency Department, working collaboratively with a team of experienced nurses across the acute care environment. Your role will involve delivering safe, patient-centred care while responding to the varied and evolving needs of a rural hospital.

You will be supported by visiting Clinical Nurse Educators, senior clinicians, and the local nursing and management team. Orientation, online education, and ongoing professional development opportunities are provided to support your learning and confidence in both ward and emergency settings.

About You

You are a motivated and adaptable Registered Nurse who enjoys working in a rural healthcare environment and values teamwork, accountability, and high-quality patient care.

  • Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • Able to work independently while providing leadership and support to junior nurses and Assistants in Nursing.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and a patient-focused approach to care.
  • Bring excellent time management, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Emergency Department experience is desirable but not essential.
