Based in the heart of Moree, you’ll be joining a compassionate and highly collaborative multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality palliative care to individuals and their families. The service works closely with Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Dietitians, Oncology staff, and Community Nursing teams to provide truly integrated, person-centred care.
Moree Palliative Care Unit supports clients across Moree, Mungindi, Boggabilla, Toomelah, and Warialda through both outpatient and inpatient pathways. This is a community-oriented service with strong local ties, delivering care that prioritises dignity, cultural respect, and meaningful support at every stage of the palliative journey. The facility offers the convenience of free parking and the benefit of being close to town, making your workday smoother and more accessible. The culture within the team is warm, collaborative, and grounded in shared values of compassion, respect, and advocacy for the communities we serve.
About the role
This role is all about providing thoughtful, holistic palliative care to clients and their families. You will coordinate and deliver care that supports symptom management, emotional wellbeing, end-of-life planning, and advanced care directives.
Working Monday to Friday (8:00–16:30), you’ll operate as part of a larger multidisciplinary team but also practice with a strong level of autonomy. This is a sole practitioner role, so confidence, initiative, and the ability to work independently are essential.
Your week may include:
Supporting clients and families through the palliative and end-of-life journey
Providing outreach to surrounding towns
Delivering culturally respectful care in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
Collaborating with MDT colleagues to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care
Enhancing accessibility and appropriateness of palliative care for rural and Indigenous clients
Travel is required at times, particularly for outreach visits across the district.
About you
You’re energetic, community-minded, and deeply committed to closing the gap in rural and Aboriginal health. You bring compassion, resilience, and a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals and families facing some of life’s most challenging moments.
To thrive in this role, you will need:
Strong clinical capability and confidence working autonomously
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
A collaborative approach and willingness to work across multiple disciplines
Cultural awareness and a commitment to respectful, inclusive care
Enthusiasm, adaptability, and self-direction
This position is not suitable for new graduates due to its level of autonomy.
How you’ll be supported
You won’t be doing this alone—this role is backed by a supportive, encouraging team and a network of resources to help you succeed.
You’ll have access to:
Comprehensive local and virtual orientation
Online learning modules tailored to palliative care
Ongoing support from the Clinical Nurse Consultant
Guidance and connection through the palliative care stream network
Regular opportunities for open communication and feedback
A team culture that celebrates milestones, birthdays, morning teas, farewells, and shared achievements
Professional development is a strong focus within the service. You’ll have opportunities for further training, skill development, and clinical growth. Additional acute shifts are also available for those seeking extra hours.
