The Medical Imaging Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing patient care encompassing a range of age groups and speciality areas with varying levels of patient acuity (outpatient, inpatient and critical care). RN’s are required to undertake comprehensive assessment and care of patients before, during and after diagnostic studies and therapeutic/interventional procedures in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
Medical Imaging RN’s are supported to develop speciality skills including radiation safety, contract administration, vascular access, procedural scouting/scrubbing, advanced life support skills, sedation and patient recovery.
A key role of the Medical Imaging RN is to collaborate with different multidisciplinary team members (Radiologists, Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Medical Radiation Scientists, speciality medical teams) to ensure patient experience high quality, safe care. Nurses maintain a patient centred approach ensuring patients understand their medical imaging study and/or procedure and associated recovery requirements.
Medical Imaging RN’s are required to participate in a 7 day rotating roster, as well as the on call roster for after hour procedures once clinical competencies have been achieved.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed-base count of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.
