John Hunter Emergency Department is one of the busiest mixed adult and paediatric tertiary Emergency Departments in Australia, managing over 85,000 presentations annually. We are proud to be the only Trauma Referral Centre in NSW outside of Sydney.

Our comprehensive department includes:

  • Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation & Trauma Bays

  • Acute Adult and Paediatric Areas

  • Fast Track

  • Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU)

We provide critical care across a wide range of specialties, including:

  • Major trauma

  • Neurosurgical and neurological emergencies (including acute stroke)

  • Cardiology and cardiothoracic emergencies

  • Major orthopaedic presentations

  • Paediatric and adolescent mental health care
