Where you'll be working
Join the Greater Newcastle Acute Care Team, a specialist mental health service dedicated to providing brief interventions for adults at risk of hospitalisation. You'll work across home visits, phone contact, telehealth and centre-based appointments throughout the Greater Newcastle region, collaborating within a cohesive multidisciplinary team focused on timely, effective crisis care. Together, this creates meaningful opportunities to support people during acute mental health episodes right where they need it most.
About the role
As a Registered Nurse – Acute Care Team, you'll deliver specialist mental health interventions to adults in the acute phase of illness, preventing unnecessary hospital admissions through rapid assessment, risk management and care coordination. You'll provide care via flexible modalities (home visits, telehealth, phone and clinic-based), working closely with psychiatrists, allied health and community partners to stabilise patients and support safe community management. Reporting to the Health Service Manager 3, this dynamic role lets you make immediate clinical impact while contributing to cohesive team operations.
About you
You're a flexible, fast-paced Registered Nurse with sound communication skills and a natural ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary mental health teams. You thrive in acute settings, responding effectively to rapidly changing patient needs.
You bring:
- Current AHPRA registration as Registered Nurse
- NSW driver's licence (required for community work)
- Sound communication skills for crisis intervention and family engagement
- Ability to work flexibly in fast-moving acute mental health environments
- Strong multidisciplinary teamwork supporting brief, effective interventions
These skills and qualities will help you excel in preventing hospitalisations, with comprehensive support from the Clinical Director, Team Manager, Clinical Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Consultant in a cohesive team environment.
