Sydney Local Health District (SLHD) is seeking a Fellow in Radiology and Cardiology to join our team at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA).

It is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and provides an extensive range of treatment, including diagnostic and interventional services to people in NSW and across Australia.

What you'll be doing
This Provisional Fellow position in the Cardiac Cross-Sectional Imaging Service ('the Service') in the RPA Hospital Departments of Cardiology (RPA Cardiology) and Radiology (RPA Radiology). The Service provides comprehensive image interpretation for Coronary Imaging/Viability, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Genetic Heart Disease, Structural Heart Interventions (including TAVI, TMVR, TTVR), Sports Cardiology, Heart Failure, Infiltrative / Inflammatory Myocarditis, Arrhythmia, Aortic Disease and Cancer medicine. We are one of only a few services that perform Cardiac MRIs on patients with implantable devices. 
  
The Service currently provides Cardiac MRI (CMR) scans for inpatients and outpatients on two MRI scanners - a 
Siemens Skyra 3T and a GE Signa 1.5T - with analysis via Circle CVI and Report 42 integrated into the eMR and available across multiple workstations. Cardiac CT is also performed on a state-of-the-art dual-source Siemens Force. 
  
The key focus of the position is on Cardiac MRI and Cardiac CT, with the role responsible for coordinating the day to day work of the Service, including preparation of patients, supervision and reporting of scans and teaching and training of Junior Medical Staff (in Radiology and Cardiology). Fellows would be expected to achieve Level 3 Society for Cardiovascular Medical Resonance (SCMR) Accreditation and Level A Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography (CTCA) Certification. The position is also expected to be able to scan CMR independently by the end of the Fellowship.  Supervision will be provided through five Cardiologists and three Radiologists accredited to Level 3 SMCR, Level A/B CTCA and skilled in Structural CT and Congenital Imaging. Opportunities exist for imaging projects in preclinical and clinical / translational environments, with strong links to the University of Sydney. 
  
The role will involve: 

  • Three half days per week of CMR; 
  • Three half days per week of Cardiac CT; 
  • One half day per week participating in the preparation for and attendance of Multidisciplinary (MDT), Departmental & Educational Meetings; 
  • One half day per week participating in elective or clinical service roles in the specialty Department. This is not limited to, but may include other general/specialised Radiology, Advanced Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology.

  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Hold a Fellowship in Cardiology (FRACP) or Radiology (RANCZR) or be eligible to obtain their qualification prior to commencement of employment.
