What you'll be doing
The RPA Hospital Electrophysiology Fellowship program has been designed to further increase the skills and knowledge of candidates in clinical and basic electrophysiology.
Candidates will be trained in:
- Techniques of femoral artery and femoral vein puncture, the passage of catheters and radiological techniques.
- Procedures to maximise the safety of electrophysiological studies, catheter ablation and cardiac device implantation.
- Electrocardiography and electrogram measurements and interpretation.
- Principles of patient selection, preparation and after care in both inpatient and non-inpatient settings.
- Performing electrophysiology studies on selected patients as the primary operator under the direction of senior electrophysiologist/cardiologist.
- Assisting senior electrophysiologists/cardiologists with catheter ablations and techniques of patient selection, implantation and management of implantable defibrillators and pacemakers.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated strong organisational skills, ability to manage competing priorities and be flexible to change with proven ability to work both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient care.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to present information in a manner understood by both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality.
- Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research as required.
- Previous experience in electrophysiology and device implantation procedures desirable (but not essential).
