What you'll be doing

Provisional Fellow positions are available in Clinical Genetics (Research) for up to 12 months.

The positions are available to Advanced Trainees of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Paediatrics, Adult Medicine or equivalent recognised colleges in Australasia or overseas.

These positions can be recognised for Advanced Training in Clinical Genetics. Applications are welcomed from those interested in a 6-12 month period of clinical genetics training, as an adjunct to training in another sub-specialty or in general paediatrics, as well as those pursuing advanced training in clinical genetics.

Successful applicants will be involved in paediatric, prenatal, adult and specialty outpatient genetics clinics, multidisciplinary meetings and inpatient consultations. Genetics Fellows participate in activities of the NSW Clinical Genetics inter-campus educational programs. Participation in teaching other junior staff is encouraged. Opportunities exist for some clinical research within these positions, subject to availability.

The position provides Advanced Trainees with immersive, supported learning of the basic principles of clinical genetics, syndrome diagnosis, genetic testing, counselling and ethical issues relevant to both clinical genetics and broader practice. It will provide the applicant with a unique opportunity to become familiar with the application and interpretation of new genomic testing techniques, increasing in importance for most areas of medical practice with the ongoing integration of genomics into both specialty and mainstream medical care.

Additionally, the position provides Advanced Trainees an opportunity to further their training, developing skills important for a consultant role in the spheres of clinical care, education and training as well as research with support from the team consultants and other health care professionals. The Provisional Fellow role is a leadership role both within the department for other junior medical staff and medical students as well as members of the multidisciplinary team but also across the broader hospital community.
