Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care. Royal North Shore Hospital provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services. The campus is also home to The Kolling – a medical research institute jointly governed with the University of Sydney

What you'll be doing
 

The Department of Hand Surgery & Peripheral Nerve Surgery is a tertiary referral centre in NSW for injuries to and diseases of the hand, as well as nerve injuries affecting the upper limb. Special areas of expertise include: 
  
-           mutilating hand injuries and replantations 
-          congenital hand anomalies 
-          spasticity and tetraplegic hand and upper limb surgery 
-          brachial plexus injuries 
-          free tissue transfer and flap coverage for upper limb injuries 
-          complex wrist injuries 
-          rheumatoid hand surgery. 
  
The Department consists of six Hand Surgery consultants (orthopaedic, plastic and general surgical backgrounds), three Fellows, two Orthopaedic Surgery Trainees, one Plastic Surgery Trainee and a Resident Medical Officer, along with a Research Officer and Department Secretary. 
  
The Department provides care for emergency hand and upper limb injuries and elective hand and upper limb conditions, with a 24 hour on-call service staffed at Consultant and Fellow/Trainee level. The Department has outpatient clinics each weekday, along with an Integrated Hand Unit to receive trauma referrals Monday-Friday. The Department has an assigned operating theatre Monday-Friday for elective and trauma surgery, along with weekend availability as required. Members of the Department also provide hand surgery services to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Dubbo Base Hospital and a number of private hospitals. 
  
The Fellow is expected to participate in all clinical, teaching, research and on-call components of the department, to deliver hand surgery services within the Department of Hand Surgery & Peripheral  Nerve Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital, North Shore Private Hospital, The Children’s Hospital at  Westmead and Dubbo Base Hospital. This participation will provide the Fellow with further training in hand surgery and peripheral nerve surgery.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
