Royal North Shore Hospital is a principal tertiary referral hospital for Northern Sydney Local Health District providing a comprehensive range of complex services to patients from across NSW. It has a strong and proud history in education, research and provision of high quality clinical care. Royal North Shore Hospital provides specialty services including major trauma, severe burns, spinal cord injuries, neonatal intensive care, bone marrow transplantation, neurosurgery and interventional neuroradiology alongside acute medical, surgical, mental health, paediatric, cancer and maternity services. The campus is also home to The Kolling – a medical research institute jointly governed with the University of Sydney

What you'll be doing
 

The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of stroke patients under the supervision of the consultant Neurologist, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Fellow will provide comprehensive training in all aspects of diagnostic, therapy and prevention of stroke and be actively involved in national and international acute stroke research studies which investigate extending the window for thrombolysis and comparing IV thrombolysis to IV/embolectomy. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

  1. Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
  2. Advanced ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services
  3. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals
  5. Experience in Neuro-imaging techniques
  6. Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development and demonstrated ability to teach, and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff
  7. Understanding of research methodology and research experience with published research or study preferred.
  8. Current unrestricted NSW Driver's Licence
