Junior Medical Officer


 

The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality obstetric and gynaecological care to patients in a complex clinical environment whilst developing higher professional maturity and professionalism during the RANZCOG Advanced Training Program, with the goal of obtaining FRANZCOG.

 

The Position is based primarily at Nepean Hospital Campus with operating lists at other locations within the LHD. This stability allows fellows to build momentum in their development and crystalize their progress with clinical, surgical, ultrasound and research skills

What you'll be doing

  • Enhancing your skills and competency in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic gynaecological surgery.
  • Adopting skills in laparoscopic adnexal surgery, laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic suturing and laparoscopic endometriosis surgery (in the context of an Interdisciplinary approach with Colorectal and Urology).
  • Developing ultrasound competencies by attending the 'One-Stop Endometriosis Gynaecology' clinics, Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology sessions.
  • Participating in the roster for on call duties at Nepean Hospital.


 

Where you'll be working

  • Fellows are primarily based in the outpatient clinic within the Sydney Medical School Nepean building. This is where ultrasound based clinics are run, as well as the majority of research.
  • Operating lists are held at Nepean Hospital and Blue Mountains District ANZAC Memorial Hospital.


 


 

Essential requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Completion of 4 years of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Integrated Training Programme (ITP) and successful completion of the RANZCOG Fellowship exam by commencement of employment, or certified as substantially equivalent to this level by RANZCOG.
  • Current registration as a Trainee or SIMG with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (or eligible for) and intent to obtain Fellowship of the College.
  • Recent relevant clinical experience required to undertake the key accountabilities for this role.
  • This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
  • Applicants who are not currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia must meet English language skills registration standard (medical) and attach evidence of this to their application.
  • Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

  3. Advanced ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise.
  4. Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
  5. Advanced ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
  6. Commitment to participating in training and development opportunities to further develop skills and knowledge in the area of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
  7. Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
