Where you'll be working

Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital featuring fifteen operating theatres, 550 adult beds and 101 paediatric beds. We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.

 

What you'll be doing
 

  • The trainee is expected to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex multi-disciplinary clinical environment.
  • The trainee needs to have demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team – diligence, punctuality, organisation, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills, team work.
  • The trainee is expected to possess excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues.
  • The trainee needs to have demonstrated ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical care, and commitment to ongoing advanced training education, research and teaching; and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Successful completion of FRACP Medicine exam
  3. Completed advanced training in Respiratory Medicine. Any previous sleep training would be highly desirable.
  4. A professional attitude and flexibility, with a preparedness and ability to participate in after-hours overtime and on call rosters.
  5. Demonstrated experience and commitment to education and teaching of junior medical officers, nursing and allied health staff
  6. Record of research Interest, e.g. previous publication and continuous quality Improvement
  7. Experience in and commitment to, best practice and continuous quality Improvement
  8. Demonstrated high standard of verbal and written communication skills Including the use of electronic records and data entry
