Where you'll be working
Western Sydney Local Health District is responsible for the provision of health services to the local government area comprised of Auburn, Baulkham Hills, Blacktown, Holroyd, and Parramatta. These services are provided through a number of hospital and community-based facilities located strategically across the District.

Western Sydney Local Health District is committed to achieving continuous quality improvement in client services within a Quality Management framework, with a supporting Strategic Plan aimed at the continuous improvement of all facilities. The District has individual facilities located at Westmead, Cumberland, Auburn, Blacktown and Mount Druitt.

All hospitals provide a range of both in-patient and outpatient services to clients both from within the boundaries of the District and cross border flows. In addition to this, there are a number of facilitates strategically located across the District that provide primary health care services to the community.

The primary goal of Western Sydney Local Health District is:  To improve the health of, and ensure comprehensive health care services for, our community.

Its principal purposes are:

- To provide relief to sick and injured persons through the provision of care and treatment.

- To promote, protect and maintain the health of the community.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the position is to provide high quality obstetric and maternal and fetal medicine care in addition to gynaecological care to patients in a tertiary maternal fetal medicine unit. The goal during the RANZCOG advanced training program is to develop professional maturity and increased expertise in high risk obstetrics, maternal fetal medicine, tertiary obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasound The Provisional Fellow will work under the supervision of senior staff as approved by the RANZCOG subspecialty committee in MFM.

The Training Program
Westmead Hospital is an accredited training hospital for RANZCOG and Maternal Fetal Medicine training.

The Training Network
Westmead Hospital and secondment Hospitals, including but not limited to Westmead Private Hospital, Norwest Private Hospital, San Private Hospital, Auburn Hospital, Blacktown Hospital and Westmead Childrens Hospital.

Training Opportunities
The training opportunities available in the position of Provisional Fellow (Maternal Fetal Medicine Unaccredited) include:
•    Development of ultrasound skills with a specific focus on Maternal Fetal Medicine.
•    Education via regular structured and unstructured teaching and education
•    Access to support for research, audits and patient safety and quality improvement projects.  
•    Development of skills in management of both admitted and outpatients.
•    Development of skills and knowledge specific to the treatment and care of women and families requiring specialist Maternal Fetal Medical care.
Orientation
Hospital Orientation occurs at the beginning of each term for all doctors new to the individual hospital.The department of O&G provides an orientation manual to all medical staff working in the department.
Hospital Orientation covers the following: hospital tour, RSU services (pay, timesheets etc.), medico-legal issues, occupational health and safety, pharmacy, patient flow, computer access and teaching schedule. In addition, orientation will be provided for infection control, medical emergency calling system, deteriorating patient and death and cremation certificates.

Supervision Arrangements
The Provisional Fellow (Maternal Fetal Medicine Unaccredited) is supervised by the training supervisors and the other consultants as indicated.

 
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia
  2. Fourth (or greater) postgraduate year, Completion of 4 years of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Integrated Training Programme (ITP) and successful completion of the RANZCOG Fellowship exam by commencement of the contract or equivalent is preferred.
  3. Experience in teaching junior medical staff.
  4. Interest in research, audit and quality assurance projects undertaken by the department.
  5. Be able to deliver ultrasound services to pregnant women with senior supervision is expected.
  6. Demonstrated experience or interest in Maternal Fetal Medicine would be preferable.
