Where you'll be working
The HNE Mental Health Pharmacy Service and the NSW Residential Eating Disorders Centre (REDC) has an exciting opportunity for a Grade 2 pharmacist to work across 2 services, including within the multi award-winning and close-knit Mental Health Pharmacy team based at the Mater campus, Waratah and the REDC team at Charlestown. You will be working within a modern, renovated Mental Health Pharmacy Department, at Mater Mental Health which provides a spacious and streamlined working environment, as well as onsite at a state-of-the-art NSW Residential Eating Disorders Centre and at a recovery-oriented 20 bed mental health rehabilitation unit located on the historic James Fletcher campus in Newcastle.
The opportunity
The successful candidate will be working in a temporary full-time contract for 38 hours per week to backfill MAT leave up to early January 2027. They will provide clinical pharmacy services for mental health wards across 3 sites, including the Mater campus and onsite at the Intermediate Stay Mental Health Unit (ISMHU) in Newcastle (for a combined total of 3 days per week) and for Residential Eating Disorders Centre clients & staff 2 days per week (including 1 of these days at Mater Mental Health).
The REDC role provides an exciting opportunity to work specifically with people with an eating disorder within a unique model of care, to provide medication counselling and support for REDC clients, as well as medicines information to clients and staff, attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and assessment of a client’s ability to self-administer medications and facilitation of medication supply.
The Mater Mental Health based clinical pharmacy services (which also cover working onsite at ISMHU in Newcastle) require attendance at weekly multidisciplinary team meetings/ ward rounds (face to face or via telehealth) and attendance at morning clinical handovers, where possible, as well as dispensary cover for Mater Mental Health inpatients and provision of clinical advice for mental health outpatient services across HNELHD, including for the HNE clozapine shared-care program, as needed.
You will be supported by the initial MH Orientation at Mater Mental Health is available for new pharmacy team members. You will be working within a supportive Mental Health Pharmacy team, including senior pharmacists and the Director of Pharmacy. You will have access to regular education, including in-services, Mental Health grand rounds, the district Quality Use of Medicines team and district pharmacist education services, as well as relevant eLearning modules via My Health Learning, in-house training and through the HNELHD performance and development process provided by the Director of Pharmacy.
About you
We are seeking an enthusiastic pharmacist with a “can-do” attitude, who has experience in delivering clinical pharmacy services in a hospital setting, within the Mental Health specialty. This position requires a proven knowledge of therapeutics and psychotropic medications, an interest in working with people with eating disorders in a unique model of care, as well as excellent organisational and problem-solving skills to help optimise medication management for mental health patients and carers. This role would suit pharmacists who have an inquiring mind and are keen to improve their expertise in the clinical areas.

1. Proof of eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration agency, Pharmacy.
