PCYMHS – e-PIMHS Perinatal Stream
Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD). This team is located at Redbank House, Westmead Hospital, but can accommodate remote working to provide consultation/liaison perinatal psychiatry via telehealth throughout NSW.
Successful applicants will have skills and expertise in Perinatal and Infant Psychiatry and demonstrated sound clinical experience working as a senior medical practitioner. The position works closely with the e-PIMHS CNC/Clinical lead.
The Perinatal Child & Youth Mental Health Service (PCYMHS) consists of several inpatient and community teams within WSLHD that includes the e-Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Service (e-PIMHS), Perinatal Liaison Service (PLS), The inpatient Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) and the community based Perinatal Infant Mental Health (PIMH) service.
This position's main purpose is to provide specialist perinatal and infant Psychiatry consultation services to NSW rural, regional and remote communities.
Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration at time of applying.
Essential Requirements for Appointment
1. Possess registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Psychiatrists as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Possess Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Perinatal and Infant Psychiatry demonstrated through successful clinical practice in both inpatient and community mental health settings.
3. Demonstrated high level skills and attributes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
- excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and proactively with a multidisciplinary Perinatal mental health team.
- Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice
- Commitment to teaching and supervision
4. Sound clinical knowledge of the sequelae of trauma and attachment disruptions on the developmental trajectory of children and families within the perinatal stream.
5. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring reflective practice that supports credentialling to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
6. Familiarity with routine use of tele-psychiatry.
7. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the department.
Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Selection Criteria
Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:
1. Possess current registration with the Medical Board of Australia and hold Fellowship of the Royal College of Australian and New Zealand Psychiatrists (RANZCP) with interest in Perinatal Psychiatry.
2. Extensive knowledge of current national and international trends in Perinatal Psychiatry and ability to apply knowledge to strategise and prioritise resource allocation.
3. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
· Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health service colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
· Demonstrated effective communication skills with patients and colleagues.
· Demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships with high level skills in organisation, supervision and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
· Maintaining and develop knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
· Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
4. Experience & involvement in risk management, quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice provision of perinatal mental health care.
5. Demonstrated personal qualities of clinical leadership, including excellent communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to negotiation and clinical team building.
6. Knowledge of relevant legislation, NSW Ministry of Health policies and WSLHD procedures including NSW Mental Health Act, Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection), workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination Acts.
7. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.
