What you'll be doing
The senior social worker is responsible for the provision of a comprehensive social work service to patients receiving Palliative and End of Life Care at Blacktown Hospital and their families. This includes both inpatient and outpatient cohorts with complex needs who are approaching the end of life.
The position will be contributing high level clinical knowledge and skill in the domains of advance care planning, end of life care, anticipatory grief, bereavement and crisis work. This may include specialised psychosocial skills in assessing and supporting the management of patients and families with progressive conditions.
The Level 3 Social Work Senior Clinician is able to demonstrate advanced reasoning skills on circumstances of a complex nature requiring advanced practice skills, operates autonomously with minimum direct clinical supervision and has a consultative role within their area of speciality. They are involved with planning, implementation, evaluation and reporting on clinical services and are involved in the implementation of WSLHD protocols, quality improvement initiatives, policies and procedures.

Essential Criteria:
Qualification: Degree in Social Work with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work
Selection Criteria:
Demonstrated experience and skills in counselling in palliative care or other clinical settings involving life limiting illness, including specialist knowledge of grief and bereavement processes
Demonstrated experience and advanced skills in comprehensive psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, individual and family counselling skills, complex case management, end of life care, negotiation and problem solving.
Demonstrated experience in staff and/or student supervision
Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures for service improvement and skills in providing training and education
Well-developed time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing skills and high level computer literacy
Demonstrated excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and implement quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
Participation in the After Hours Crisis On-Call Social Work Service
