Paediatric Physician Basic Training positions are accredited for Paediatric Basic Training as outlined by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. This position is for Trainees entering into a Network Paediatric Training Program. Successful applicants will be issued with a 3 year training program contract to complete Basic Training in Paediatrics and Child Health, to commence from 02 February 2026.

SELECTION WILL BE BASED ON VARIOUS INTERVIEW AND ASSESSMENT TASKS WHICH WILL REQUIRE ADDITIONAL TIME ON THE DAY OF INTERVIEW. APPLICANTS WILL BE ASKED TO BE AVAILABLE FOR 2 HOURS ON THE DAY OF INTERVIEW. INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD FROM MONDAY 11TH AUGUST - FRIDAY 15TH AUGUST 2025 VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE.
These positions are attached to one of the three NSW Paediatric Physician Training Networks (i.e. Western, Northern, or Eastern Paediatric Physician Training Networks), each of which is made up of a number of health care facilities. As these are network positions, they involve training in a variety of locations and clinical departments. Duties will be performed at more than one place of work. To comply with Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) training program requirements, trainees may be required to work in accredited facilities (including private hospitals). Facilities may be outside of NSW. The composition of each training network is provided in the attached document. There may be additional accredited facilities not listed.
Trainees complete Basic Training over three years (36 months full time equivalent) guided by the Basic Training handbooks and curricula in Paediatrics & Child Health. The first year will be as PGY3 or at the year commensurate with years of postgraduate experience. During each clinical year, you will be asked to undertake an internal review with performance appraisal by the Director of Paediatric Education at which time you will be asked to demonstrate satisfactory progress and progression through training. Physicians and other health professionals supervise and mentor trainees throughout their training. The Divisional Written Examination and Divisional Clinical Examination is towards the end of training to test a trainee's knowledge and skills and determine if they are eligible to progress to Advanced Training.
Job share is not available for the first year of this 3 year training contract. A limited number of job share arrangements may be available during subsequent years within the network of appointment. Applicants who wish to job share in their second and/or third year of training will need to discuss this with the Chief Resident and Director of Training.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience. Eligible for registration with RACP and less than 12 months RACP paediatric training at commencement of contract.
- Ongoing commitment to further education and professional development. This includes demonstrated ability to teach and willingness to participate in the teaching of Medical Students, Junior Medical Staff and other clinical staff. Please provide an example.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriate management of the patient. Please provide an example.
- Demonstrated experience in taking comprehensive patient histories, performing clinical examinations and accurately documenting in patient records. Please provide an example.
- Ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment. Please provide an example.
- Ability to demonstrate accurate decision-making, to seek further advice in accordance with level of experience and to show an awareness of limitations. Please provide an example.
- Proven ability to organise, plan and manage competing tasks. Please provide an example.
