💚 About the Role
As a Social Worker - Paediatric Haematology, you’ll provide a specialised, evidence-based social work service supporting children and families as they navigate the complexities of diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care. Your expertise will extend beyond clinical intervention, with opportunities to provide psychoeducation, advocacy, practical support and tailored resources to help ensure the broader healthcare and wellbeing needs of each child and family are recognised and supported.
Working with children and families from diverse backgrounds, you’ll bring a strengths-based, culturally responsive and inclusive approach, particularly when supporting families who may experience barriers to accessing healthcare and community services due to language, culture, disability or complex social circumstances. Your ability to build trust, identify individual needs and connect families with appropriate supports will be integral to the role.
Reporting to the Service Manager – Paediatric Social Work, you’ll be well supported within both the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Social Work Department and the Haematology multidisciplinary team. A comprehensive orientation will provide you with a strong foundation in the service, patient cohort, key processes and referral pathways, ensuring you feel confident and connected from the outset.
We recognise that supporting children and families experiencing serious or chronic health conditions can bring both meaningful rewards and complex challenges. Clinician wellbeing is therefore a strong focus, with access to reflective practice, timely support, professional supervision and ongoing development opportunities throughout your employment.
