We are a department of approximately 50 clinicians with varied skillsets and knowledge working with acute and rehabilitation patients in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. We are a cohesive team ensuring clinicians at all levels are involved in department development and decision-making processes to better the department and services we provide for our patients. For example, all OTs are involved in department portfolios and quality projects.
Supervision is a priority within our department, and we will establish the appropriate supervisory supports you require to reach your personal and professional goals.
Professional development is strongly encouraged in the OT department both internally and externally to the organisation. Our well-established education portfolio offers a range of presentations/in-services throughout the year, tailored to meet the learning needs and interests of our clinicians.
We recognise the importance of work-life balance and have various initiatives and arrangements in place to ensure your well-being is prioritised. This includes a well established ‘Culture Club’ Portfolio who arrange various social gatherings and celebrations to bring the department together.

Working at Westmead Hospital will allow you to significantly impact patient outcomes while advancing your professional development.
About the role:
This is a permanent part-time position within our department, working as a level ½ Occupational Therapist on Sundays at Westmead Hospital. This role is an essential part of our commitment to delivering a 7-day Occupational Therapy service to our geriatric patients, ensuring timely, safe and patient-centres care throughout the week.
Our weekend OTs manage an acute caseload primarily based on the acute geriatric ward (OPERA), working closely with the multidisciplinary team to progress discharges and maintain patient flow. The weekend OT receives clear, structured handover from the mid-week team, identifying patients who would benefit from review and intervention over the weekend. This enables timely discharges on Sunday or early the following week.
While our weekend OTs typically work independently (with occasional overlap with our senior RAID OTs), this position is well supported through clinical handovers, onboarding processes, and access to clinical supervision. This position is best suited to a clinician with acute hospital experience a who thrives in a fast-paced setting, values autonomy, and teamwork.
