Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is the largest paediatric health care entity in Australia. We care for thousands of children each year in our hospitals and in their homes — with one purpose in mind — to help young people live their healthiest lives. 

In March 2026, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead will be opening a brand new Surgical Short Stay Unit as part of a state-of-the-art facility. This purpose built 12 bedded unit will care for children undergoing short stay surgery and the initial 24-hour care for high acuity complex care surgical procedures. We are looking for passionate and dynamic nursing unit manager who can build a cohesive team from scratch to operationalise this new unit.

What you'll be doing
 

The Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) is pivotal to the coordination of safe patient care, ward management and leadership with an understanding of the 'children first & foremost' philosophy to ensure optimum service delivery. 
The NUM acts as a leader with advance role model skills that promote culture and standards that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. 
• Leads, directs and co-ordinates safe patient care 
• Ensures practice is safe and effective, maintaining standards of care through continual quality improvements initiatives 
• Manages the ward effectively and within agreed allocated resources 

About You
We’re looking for someone who:

  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA and relevant management tertiary qualification or equivalent work experience, or a combination of study and work experience with a demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrates motivational, leadership, interpersonal and high level communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to be innovative, creative and self-directed related to clinical practice.
