Where you’ll be working

Join our Mental Health Intake Services Team, based at the Thwaites Building within James Fletcher Hospital. As part of this collaborative and supportive environment, you’ll work alongside skilled clinicians who are committed to making a real difference in mental health care. About the role

In this crucial role, you will be the first point of contact for individuals experiencing mental health concerns, their families, and carers. You will:

  • Conduct mental health triage and assessments, ensuring smooth and efficient care coordination.
  • Provide telehealth assessments for rural emergency departments through the Northern Mental Health Emergency Care – Rural Access Program (NMHEC – RAP).
  • Play a key role in the first responder program, supporting police and ambulance services with community triage via telehealth.
  • Process and respond to incoming mental health referrals across Hunter New England Mental Health.
  • To set you up for success, we offer comprehensive orientation and ongoing training, equipping you with the skills to thrive in this role.


About you

We’re looking for a mental health professional who:

  • Has strong skills in mental health assessment and triage.
  • Can effectively manage competing demands and prioritise workload.
  • Works well in a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best outcomes for consumers and their families/carers.
  • Is passionate about delivering accessible mental health care, particularly in rural and remote settings.
