Where you’ll be working
Join our Acute Care Team, a vital part of Hunter New England Mental Health Services, delivering high-quality mental health care within a collaborative, flexible, and learning-focused environment. You’ll be working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team that supports individuals in acute mental health distress, ensuring they receive timely and appropriate care.


About the role

This role is part of the Acute Care Team, operating on a 7-day roster, providing rapid assessment and intervention to individuals experiencing mental health crises. A typical day may involve:
  • Conducting urgent mental health assessments in a variety of settings.
  • Collaborating with Emergency Departments, community teams, families, and carers to ensure appropriate care pathways.
  • Providing short-term therapeutic interventions to stabilise consumers in distress.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team to develop care plans that support recovery.
  • Coordinating with external agencies, such as police, ambulance, and social services, to ensure consumer safety.
  • This is a fast-paced and highly rewarding role that makes a tangible impact on the lives of individuals and families in need.



About you
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic clinician who can thrive in a dynamic and high-pressure environment. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong clinical assessment and risk management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise competing demands while maintaining a high standard of care.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, working closely with colleagues across various disciplines.
  • A commitment to consumer-centred, recovery-focused care.
  • Some skills can be developed on the job, but a passion for acute mental health care and a proactive approach to learning are essential.


Requirements:

  • Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Nursing or Social Work which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association / provisional or general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
  • Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.
