We are looking for two permanent Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team in Central Specimen Reception at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Every sample you handle will be vital in providing accurate diagnoses and improving patient care. Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is one of the nation's most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. The Central Specimen Reception department at RPA is staffed by a team that understands and values hard work, excellence and team work. The department provides 24 hour, 7 days a week service to provide a quality, timely and efficient service to all clients, with the successful applicant required to be available to participate in a 24/7 shift roster including weekends and public holidays.

What you'll be doing

Contribute to a high-quality pathology service. Perform pathology specimen reception duties including receiving and triaging of specimens, patient registration and request entry, specimen processing and preparation for transport or delivery to laboratories for timely accurate diagnostic testing.

  1. Demonstrated experience a pathology setting or a demonstrated ability to learn all aspects of the pre analytical environment.
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage tasks in a demanding environment where there are competing priorities and time constraints.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, internal and external.
  4. Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills combined with the ability to investigate and resolve general issues.
  5. Willingness to operate and maintain pre analytical equipment as required.
  6. Proficient computer skills including high attention to detail and data accuracy.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive information in a laboratory setting, following relevant legislation, policies, and requirements.
  8. Willingness to participate in a 24/7 rotating shift roster, including weekends, public holidays, and night shifts, and the ability to travel to any site or location within the operational area as required.
