What you'll be doing
 

This senior position within the Department of Clinical Genetics is responsible for leading a team of genetic counsellors, as well as carrying a clinical caseload. Management responsibilities include the planning, monitoring and review of services provided by the team, workload management, supervision of team members, and coordinating professional development of team members. In addition, this position includes a support/consultancy role for counsellors employed by affiliated services to which the department provides clinical input, including Westmead Hospital and outreach genetic services at Dubbo and Orange. 

 

This position requires advanced clinical reasoning skills and high level professional knowledge and judgement. The successful applicant needs to be able to work with initiative and autonomy in consultation with medical staff and other health professionals and providing clinical supervision and support as part of a multidisciplinary team

About You

Describe the qualities and attributes of an ideal candidate, followed by specific skills and qualifications

  • Completed Part 2 Certification in Genetic Counselling certified by the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA)
  • Extensive hospital based genetic counsellor experience working with infants, children, pregnant women and adults with, or at risk of genetic disorders, and in psychosocial support to children and families
  • Advanced practical knowledge, organizational and clinical reasoning skills in the areas of Prenatal and Neurogenetics services
  • Recognised ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and professional teams, including coordination of activities of other counsellor staff
  • Experience in supervision of genetic counselling students and formal supervision of trainee genetic counsellors
