About the Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to work with a clinical team to support young people and families and to undertake community development and capacity building with local Aboriginal communities.  You will be connected to the SWSLHD Aboriginal network as well as the New Street Aboriginal network.  This clinical team covers South West Sydney, South East Sydney and Sydney local health districts.

What You'll be Doing
SWSLHD New Street Service is a coordinated, community based, specialist treatment service for 10-17 year olds who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours, and is a NSW Health Child Protection initiative. This service is based within SWSLHD in the Staying Safe in the Community Directorate and offers an outreach service to SLHD and SESLHD.
To collaborate with local service providers in the provision of programs related to engaging with the local Aboriginal communities.

Undertake community development and capacity building with local Aboriginal communities in order to best facilitate ongoing communication and service delivery to these communities.

To act as a cultural broker in the work of South Western, Sydney and South Eastern Local Health District New Street, both internally and with communities and other Government and Non- Government agencies

    1. This is a Female Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identify as an Aboriginal person and be accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
    2. Relevant qualification in Bachelor of Social Work which provides eligibility for membership to Australian Association of Social Workers or Degree in Psychology with full registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia.
    3. Demonstrated ability to provide advanced counselling services to individuals, and families in the context of child sexual assault, trauma, violence and abuse and understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW.
    4. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in managing intergenerational trauma, child sexual abuse and the principles of family focused intervention with the ability to engage with young people who have sexually harmed and with their families, including Aboriginal children and families.
    5. Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
