About the Service, Unit, and Facility
Join our dedicated and progressive Intensive Care Unit at Tamworth Hospital, the major referral and teaching hospital for the New England region. Tamworth ICU provides high-quality, patient-centred critical care to the local and surrounding rural communities, managing a wide range of acute and complex medical and surgical presentations.

Our 12-bed unit is staffed by a passionate, multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals who work collaboratively to deliver safe, evidence-based care to patients requiring intensive and high-dependency support. Our team culture is supportive, inclusive, and focused on teamwork and professional growth. We value open communication, respect, and a shared commitment to excellence. You’ll be joining a cohesive group of clinicians who take pride in delivering compassionate, high-standard care while fostering a friendly and respectful work environment.

This is a temporary contract from January 2026 to January 2027, offering the chance to gain valuable experience in a regional ICU while contributing meaningfully to patient outcomes across the New England region.

About the Position

We are seeking motivated and dynamic ICU Nurse Practitioners (NP) or Transitional Nurse Practitioners (TNP) to join our Tamworth Hospital Intensive Care Unit. In this advanced clinical role, you’ll work within a defined Scope of Practice, delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care to critically ill patients and their families.

In this role, you will function autonomously and collaboratively alongside a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, contributing to decision-making and patient management across the ICU. You will participate in a rotating 12-hour roster (days and nights), aligned with the medical coverage model to ensure consistent, high-quality care.

A typical week involves patient assessment, care planning, and clinical review, working in partnership with medical and nursing colleagues to achieve optimal outcomes. You’ll also play an active role in clinical governance, education, and continuous improvement initiatives within the unit.

This is an excellent opportunity to advance your critical care career while enjoying the professional satisfaction and lifestyle balance that comes with working in a regional setting.

About You
We are looking for passionate and highly capable nurses who thrive in advanced practice roles and enjoy the challenge of working in a dynamic, fast-paced ICU environment.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Advanced clinical expertise and critical thinking, with the ability to manage complex patient care independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to maintaining a positive, respectful, and team-oriented workplace culture.
  • Adaptability and resilience in a demanding clinical setting.

If you are motivated to expand your practice scope and make a real difference in regional critical care nursing, we encourage you to apply.

Support and Professional Development
You will be supported by the ICU Medical and Nursing leadership teams, who are committed to ensuring your success and growth within the role.

An individualised orientation program will be provided to familiarise you with the unit’s systems, processes, and patient care models, helping you transition confidently into your advanced clinical responsibilities.

For Nurse Practitioners and Transitional Nurse Practitioners, Tamworth Hospital offers a comprehensive 12-month post-endorsement ICU specialty training program, designed to extend your clinical expertise and consolidate your advanced practice skills. This includes ongoing mentorship, structured education, and access to professional development opportunities across the district.
