About the Opportunity 

Join the team as a Hospital Assistant – Cleaner at the Calvary Mater Hospital, Waratah, and play an important role in maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff. You will contribute to the delivery of quality cleaning services across clinical and non-clinical areas, in accordance with NSW Health Cleaning Service Standards, Guidelines and Policy. 

About the Role 

As a Hospital Assistant – Cleaner, you will: 

  • Have flexibility to work 8-hour shifts between the hours of 6.00am - 10pm, including weekends and public holidays. 
  • Carry out cleaning duties across clinical and non-clinical departments in accordance with the relevant Service Plan. 
  • Clean surfaces, fittings, fixtures and furniture using a range of equipment, including vacuum cleaners, ladders and scrubbers. 
  • Clean immediate patient environments, including infectious and isolation rooms. 
  • Remove bags of soiled linen and waste to collection points and undertake manual handling tasks such as moving equipment and stores, pushing trolleys and mopping floors. 
  • Maintain relevant records and complete documentation associated with cleaning duties, including ordering consumables. 
  • Work collaboratively with team members to maintain open communication and ensure service requirements and standards are consistently met. 
  • Participate in staff meetings and training while on duty. 
  • Adhere to NSW Health and local policies and procedures and follow reasonable directions from the Environmental Services Manager, Supervisor or Team Leaders. 

About You 

We are looking for someone who: 

  • Works effectively as part of a team and is committed to delivering quality services. 
  • Has previous cleaning experience in a healthcare, commercial or industrial setting, or demonstrated ability to perform in the role. 
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Understands work health and safety principles, including safe manual handling and infection control. 
  • Has good time management skills and can organise their workload and identify critical priorities. 
  • Has basic computer skills and the ability to complete mandatory training requirements, including face-to-face and online units.
