Established in 1958, The Sutherland Hospital campus offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and community services to around 226,000 residents of the Sutherland Shire. The hospital campus is close to some of Sydney’s great beaches, restaurants, bars, and cafes at Cronulla. At Miranda, just a short walk away from the hospital, there is the Westfield Shopping Centre and cinema complex.
Sutherland Hospital Occupational Therapy Department, where you will be based, sees approximately 4,000 patients per year, with a wide variety of clinical presentations.

The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator is based with the Occupational Therapy Department and will work across The Sutherland Hospital and Community, and the Garrawarra Centre. The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator facilitates learning and continuing professional development for Occupational Therapists and support staff. In consultation with the Occupational Therapists, the Occupational Therapy Educator will develop, deliver and evaluate continuing professional development programs, clinical skills development programs and staff orientation programs. The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator will also support and facilitate Sutherland Hospital and Community Occupational Therapy undergraduate fieldwork placements in consultation with Occupational Therapy staff and relevant Universities.
The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator will be required to participate in and promote quality improvement activities, evidencebased practice, and the development and implementation of research activities. The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator will encourage and support Sutherland Hospital and Community Occupational Therapists to be involved in these activities. The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator is responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Occupational Therapy Department Continuing Professional Development Strategic Plan, and the Sutherland and Garrawarra Centre Fieldwork Education Strategic Plan.
The position will have education, management and clinical responsibilities. The ability to perform with a high level of professional knowledge, exercise substantial professional judgement and undertake work of significant scope is inherent in the operation of the position. The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator will carry a partial clinical workload. The Occupational Therapy Professional Educator is also required to provide clinical supervision to L1 – 4 Occupational Therapists, as directed by the Occupational Therapy Department Head or Deputy Department Head.

Selection Criteria:
1. Recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy, current registration with AHPRA accordance with Schedule C of the Award and commitment to own ongoing professional development.
2. Extensive post graduate clinical experience in a hospital or community setting.
3. Demonstrated experience and skills in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of education programs for Occupational Therapists, technical and support staff.
4. Experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating Occupational Therapy fieldwork education.
5. Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders including education providers.
6. Ability to initiate, lead and complete and share quality improvement initiatives and services evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff.
7. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills. Advanced report writing skills including reporting against key performance indicators
8. Current drivers licence and willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
