Health Education Officer Non-Graduate: $1,197.54 - $1,731.74

Health Education Officer Graduate: $1,369.66 - $2,188.39

RUSH Needle and Syringe Program - Brookvale and RNS Community Centres

What you'll be doing
The Health Education Officer position is responsible for the development and support of the RUSH Needle & Syringe Program (NSP) and other harm reduction initiatives to prevent and reduce blood borne viruses (BBVs) and other drug-related harms among people who inject drugs in Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD).
The position is District-wide with primary NSP locations in Brookvale Community Health Centre and RNS Community Health Centre. This position will also provide frontline NSP delivery support from secondary and outreach services throughout the District.
This position supports the development of initiatives aimed at identifying harder-to-reach populations at risk of acquiring Hepatitis C and HIV, by establishing new and developing existing appropriate outreach models in various key settings to ensure early diagnosis and assessment of BBVs and maximise uptake of treatment in such populations.
Your work will include the provision of clean injecting equipment, deliver brief interventions and providing health education, including but not limited to supporting NSP's Take Home Naloxone Program, making informal and formal referrals if required, designing and delivering of training packages, and development of relevant health promotion and community development activities.
In addition, a significant focus will be placed on expanding the services Hepatitis C model of care throughout the District.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualifications or working towards tertiary qualifications in Behavioural/Social Sciences, Drug and Alcohol, Health, Education or related areas, or relevant work experience in related fields.
  2. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of HIV, hepatitis C and other blood borne viruses and the principles of harm minimisation.
  3. Comprehensive understanding of issues affecting individuals who inject drugs inclusive of social, legal and ethical factors.
  4. The ability to relate to people who inject drugs in a non-judgemental manner and sensitivity to lifestyle issues.
  5. Current NSW drivers licence and the ability to work in various locations across the LHD.
