Tamworth Hospital is looking for a practical, reliable and team-focused Maintenance Handyman to join our busy Maintenance team.
About the role
As a Maintenance Handyman, you will work alongside our tradespeople and other handymen to support the day-to-day maintenance and operational needs of Tamworth Hospital.
Your work will contribute to maintaining a safe, clean and functional hospital environment while ensuring maintenance activities are completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to patients and staff.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Responding to maintenance requests through the AFMOnline management system in a timely manner and in accordance with work priorities.
- Assisting trade staff with minor carpentry, mechanical and plumbing tasks, appropriate to your skills and experience.
- Moving and transporting furniture, equipment and other items within the hospital and between sites.
- Transporting trade waste, including metal and broken equipment, to appropriate disposal facilities.
- Working safely and using personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with Work Health and Safety requirements.
- Working collaboratively with other members of the Maintenance team to complete daily tasks.
- Attending required training and in-service programs to maintain and develop your skills, including training in confined spaces, working at heights and asbestos awareness.
About you
We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable and takes pride in their work. You will be comfortable working as part of a team while also being able to complete tasks independently and with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Practical handyman and general maintenance skills.
- Experience with minor building repairs, maintenance and grounds upkeep.
- The ability to work efficiently and effectively while minimising disruption to patients, staff and hospital operations.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- The ability to follow instructions, prioritise tasks and respond to changing work requirements.
- A willingness to learn new skills and undertake required training.
Essential Criteria
- Current Driver's Licence
- Have or willing to obtain a high-risk license for working at heights and boom over 11 metres
- Have or willing to obtain a forklift license
About the Team
Our Maintenance team is made up of experienced Plumbers, Fitters, Electricians, Carpenters and Handymen, working together to keep the hospital environment safe, functional and well maintained for staff, patients and visitors.
You will be supported by experienced members of the Maintenance team and Maintenance Management. We understand that everyone brings different skills and experience to the role, and training and additional support will be provided where required.

What you'll be doing
To assist trade staff in the repair and service of equipment and carry out planned and preventative maintenance on equipment, plant, machinery and facilities to ensure adequate and safe equipment is available.
Perform the relevant duties that may be required by the Maintenance Manager or Deputy Maintenance Manager such as using the fork lift and pick up and delivery of goods and materials locally if required.
