About the role
The Family and Carer Peer Support Worker uses their lived experience of caring for a person with a lived experience of mental distress to support families, carers and kinship groups in improving their own health and well-being, increasing their mental health literacy, consolidating their caring role, undertaking systems advocacy and systemic improvements, and amplifying the Carer voice throughout the mental health service.

We have two roles available for Family and Carer Peer Support Workers:

-        Adult Mental Health (24 hours per week)

-        Child and Adolescent Mental Health (Safeguards) (two 0.5 FTE negotiable)(Temp up to Jun 30 2027)

This is an exciting opportunity to join our evolving Family and Carer Workers, and be part of our thriving lived experience workforce in mental health services. You will receive lived experience specific training and supervision to undertake your role.

This recruitment may be used to create a talent pool for similar future roles (ongoing or temporary) that may arise over the next 18 months.

Ideal Candidate

  

  • Personal experience of caring for someone experiencing mental distress, and demonstrated experience using recovery principles. A degree in a relevant field is required for payment at Graduate rate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to plan, implement and evaluate group and individual peer led interventions.
  • Understanding of and commitment to recovery oriented services and peer involvement in service design, implementation and evaluation.
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 Licence acceptable).
