Join the new 20-bed Low Secure Forensic Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Budyari Gamada, Blacktown Hospital, opening 13 October 2026. This is a unique opportunity to join a contemporary service at the beginning of its journey and help shape its culture, model of care and patient experience.

As part of Mental Health Services within Western Sydney Local Health District, you'll work within a growing and diverse health district committed to innovation, education and research.

• Be part of a new specialist forensic mental health service operating within the Forensic Mental Health Network.

• Deliver care alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams across Budyari Gamada, Budyari Gili and Blacktown Hospital.

• Contribute to a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and consumer-centred approach to care.

• Collaborate with the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network to support continuity of care across NSW.

• Help strengthen the focus on physical health, exercise and wellbeing for people experiencing complex mental health needs.

What you'll be doing 
As a Level 3 Exercise Physiologist, you'll use your advanced clinical knowledge and professional expertise to provide autonomous, evidence-based Exercise Physiology services tailored to the needs of consumers.

You'll have the opportunity to:

• Assess, prescribe and evaluate individual and group exercise programs aligned with clinical and consumer goals.

• Develop strategies that improve physical health, wellbeing, self-management and engagement in healthy lifestyle behaviours.

• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, participating in clinical meetings, care planning and discharge planning.

• Contribute to education, research, quality improvement and the development of innovative clinical practice.

• Provide high-quality clinical documentation, handover and professional practice while maintaining appropriate clinical and professional standards.

Essential Requirements:

Qualification: Bachelor Degree in Exercise and Sports Science or Exercise Physiology 
Registration: Eligibility for accreditation as an exercise physiologist with Exercise and Sports Science Australia.  

Selection Criteria:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science with eligibility for accreditation as an exercise physiologist with ESSA.

2. Evidence of extensive clinical experience as a Level 2 exercise physiologist or equivalent.

3. A strong commitment to an evidence- based service to provide for mental health and forensic consumers, carers and families requiring assessment, case management, intervention, appropriate referral, and discharge planning.

4. Demonstrated proficiency in ability to work autonomously with limited supervision and ability to prioritise, manage a demanding workload, apply high level reasoning skills, and have independent professional judgement.

5. Evidence of proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities, with skill in clinical practice alongside both novice and experienced health professionals and external service providers.

6. Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to initiate, lead, evaluate, and share quality improvement activities or service evaluation processes.

7. Demonstrated experience in clinical teaching and supervision of students, Level 1/2 Professionals and/or Allied Health Assistants.

8. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to learn and use a variety of health information systems.
