Where you'll be working
John Hunter Hospital Social Work team invites applications from motivated and senior Social Workers with experience in leadership, line management, and rehabilitation, to join the JHH Social Work Leadership team as Deputy Service Manager at Rankin Park Hospital.

In this role, you will guide and coordinate the delivery of high-quality, person-centred social work services for inpatients, outpatients and carers engaged in rehabilitation and Day Hospital programs. 

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Social Work Service Manager, this position is responsible for leading the Rankin Park Social Work team, with the potential to expand this line-management portfolio over time. You will provide leadership and oversight of rehabilitation services, contributing to HNELHD and NSW Health policy, guidance, and evidence relating to rehabilitation and professional practice.

The role involves overseeing team performance and day-to-day clinical operations, while providing clinical supervision, supporting professional development, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and evidence-based practice. You will work closely with sector partners and multidisciplinary teams, building strong relationships with acute and community colleagues to ensure integrated and effective care.

In addition, you will support individuals with complex cognitive, behavioural, psychological, and physical needs, helping them achieve meaningful recovery and successful reintegration into the community.

The role offers the chance to influence service development and quality improvement, contributing to planning, evaluation, and innovation across rehabilitation services. You’ll play an active part in strengthening culturally respectful practice and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal people and diverse communities, while ensuring services align with professional standards, legislation, and NSW Health values.

Requirements 

  1. Bachelor's degree in social work or equivalent and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), and a minimum of 3 years fulltime post-graduate clinical experience
  2. Valid unrestricted drivers' licence for use in NSW/Australia and willingness to travel in the course of employment
