About the role:
This position leads our clinical pharmacy services and presents the opportunity to shape our future direction as we embrace the implementation of the Single Digital Patient Record and associated new workflows.

Within the role you can expect to: 

  • Provide strategic direction for clinical services and workforce development
  • Develop and implement frameworks for training, clinical supervision, research, education and quality improvement activities
  • Oversee our residency and clinical supervision programs
  • Provide advanced clinical knowledge to support the team and their professional development so everybody practices at the top of scope.
  • Support our staff with opportunities to participate in new programs such as Partnered Pharmacist Medication Charting
  • Liaise with other pharmacy and health leaders, influencing the development of clinical pharmacy practice across the state and the nation

Where you will be working:
The John Hunter Hospital is part of the Hunter New England Local Health District, providing high quality public health services to the communities of Newcastle and surrounding areas.

Our vibrant pharmacy team of around 70 staff endeavours to achieve optimal medication outcomes following the Hunter New England principle of serving Every Patient, Every Time. We achieve this goal by offering clinical pharmacy services to various medical, surgical, and paediatric wards, including the emergency department and intensive care unit.

In addition, the pharmacy team provides services across dispensary, supply, production, medication safety, clinical trials and antimicrobial stewardship domains. We support a number of intern pharmacists each year and also offer a residency program.

 

About you:

  • You have extensive experience leading the delivery of contemporary pharmacy services in a public hospital setting and providing the workforce development that goes with it.
  • You have developed a large network of contacts within pharmacy and the wider health communities and have experience contributing to state and national pharmacy programs.
  • In addition to an extensive clinical background, you have demonstrated high-level leadership, management, analytical and strategic planning skills and you understand the political, social and organisational environment in which pharmacy services operate.
