What you'll be doing
The Department Secretary - Emergency is responsible for providing high-quality secretarial support and ensuring the efficient and professional operation of the Emergency Department (ED). While reporting to the Manager of Bookings and Admissions, this role also works closely with and reports on a day-to-day basis to the Head of Department (HOD) and the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) of ED, adapting to the dynamic, fast-paced nature of the department. Under the leadership of the HOD, this position is essential in ensuring the smooth administrative functioning of the department, contributing to the overall operations, and enhancing service delivery within the ED team.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience in providing high level support in a busy work environment. Certificate III in Health Administration or experience in health administration role.
  2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with management and staff at all levels.
  3. Demonstrated excellent written communication skills including preparation of reports, briefings, minutes and agendas, spreadsheets, and databases.
  4. Experience in responding to a range of enquiries and determining the appropriate response in a complex work environment.
  5. Advanced proficiency in the use of computer applications including HPRM, Outlook, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) and familiarity with rostering, and procurement systems.
  6. Strong organisational skills with demonstrated ability to plan, organise, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  7. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and professionalism.
  8. Experience in working effectively as part of a dynamic team and contributing to a positive workplace culture.
