About the Role

Join a busy, supportive and high-performing communications team working across one of the largest health districts in NSW. We’re looking for a proactive Communications Adviser who loves great writing and thrives on varied, fast-moving work in a busy environment. This is a true generalist role, giving you the chance to work across media, digital, internal communications and major projects. One day you might be pitching a good news story, the next supporting issue management, developing campaign content or helping shape district-wide communications.   We’re looking for someone with outstanding writing skills, sound judgement, and the ability to stay calm and clear under pressure. Experience in media relations, including issues management, is highly desirable. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that works closely together, backs each other in, and gets exposure to a wide range of high-profile and meaningful work.This is a great role for someone who wants variety, challenge, and the opportunity to grow their skills across the full communications mix.  


About the Team

The Strategic Relations and Communications team supports Hunter New England Local Health District across a wide range of priorities, from day-to-day communications to major projects, media engagement and issue management. You’ll be part of a collaborative, high-performing team with exposure to diverse, high-profile work across one of the largest health districts in NSW.


About You

You are an experienced communications professional who builds strong relationships and engages confidently with a wide range of stakeholders in a dynamic environment. You bring exceptional writing skills and can produce compelling content across multiple platforms, from media releases and executive messaging to digital and social content. You know how to identify a great story, work confidently with media, and tailor it for different audiences and channels. You are calm under pressure, solutions-focused, and comfortable navigating complex or sensitive issues. You Will Bring

 

  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to create engaging content across multiple channels
  • Experience providing strategic communications advice,  including on complex or sensitive issues
  • Confidence working with senior clinical and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong news sense and ability to identify and develop compelling stories.
  • Sound judgement, professionalism and ability to manage confidential matters.
  • and a strong eye for storytelling opportunities
  • A collaborative mindset , with initiative and willingness to support the team.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment

     

     

Essential Requirements

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience
  • Experience in media, internal communications and/or digital content production
  • Current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel as required
  • Willingness to participate in an after-hours media roster

  • Shortlisted candidates may be asked to complete a writing task as part of the selection process.
  • An eligibility list will be created for future Permanent and Temporary opportunities
  • To be eligible for employment in this position, you must be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen holding a current New Zealand Passport, or hold a valid visa with appropriate work rights in Australia. Employment for temporary visa holders will be offered only in line with the conditions and expiry date of the visa.
