Where you’ll be working

Our Trans and Gender Diverse Health Service, supported by the Statewide Trans and Gender Diverse Service, is based in Newcastle and provides specialist, evidence-based care to transgender and gender diverse children, adolescents and their families. You’ll be part of a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team that includes nursing, psychiatry, social work, psychology, speech pathology, paediatric and adult endocrinology, dietetics, adolescent medicine, GP specialists and excellent administrative support. The team is committed to thoughtful, patient-centred and reflective practice in a complex and evolving area of care.

About the role

As a Clinical Psychologist, you’ll deliver specialised psychological services for trans and gender diverse young people and their families, with a strong focus on assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention. Your work will include face-to-face and telehealth consultations, comprehensive psychological assessments including gender dysphoria assessments, report writing and consultation with families and health professionals.

You’ll also contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions, clinical review meetings and case formulation, while providing expert clinical input to support patient-centred service planning. The role includes evaluating therapy outcomes, contributing to quality improvement, research and governance processes, and helping shape innovative models of care. You’ll exercise independent clinical judgement within professional, organisational, legal and ethical boundaries, with genuine scope to influence practice standards and service development.

About you

You are a skilled and compassionate clinician with strong clinical psychology foundations and a genuine interest in gender-affirming care. You bring confidence in complex assessment and intervention, alongside the ability to work independently within a supportive multidisciplinary environment.

You bring:

⭐Generally registered as a clinical psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia with area of practice endorsement in clinical psychology via AHPRA.
⭐Completion of an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited postgraduate clinical psychology qualification of no less than two years full time duration or recognised equivalent, displayed on the Psychology Board of Australia website.
⭐Experience in complex assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention.
⭐Confidence exercising independent clinical judgement within an MDT setting.
⭐Commitment to ethical, patient-centred care.
⭐Interest in, or experience with, gender dysphoria and trans and gender diverse populations.
⭐Strong report writing and communication skills.
⭐Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
