The Nepean Mental Health Centre provides inpatient care for people experiencing acute mental health issues through the short-stay Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC), the Acute Mental Health Unit, Mental Health High Dependency Unit, and Older Persons Mental Health Unit. We support our Patients by linking them to case managers for ongoing treatment and support within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

The Clinical Psychologist within the NBMLHD Mental Health Service plays a pivotal role in delivering recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed care for consumers of all ages experiencing eating disorders. Grounded in evidence‑based assessment, diagnosis, formulation, and treatment, this position supports individuals and their families through compassionate, high‑quality psychological intervention.

In this role, you will provide individual therapy, facilitate group programs across inpatient and community settings, and actively contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of the eating disorders model of care. Your expertise will help shape service delivery and ensure consumers receive coordinated, effective, and person‑centered support.

You will also offer specialist consultation to clinicians across NBMLHD, including inpatient teams, community services, and key stakeholders, guiding best‑practice approaches to clinical management, treatment planning, and safe, collaborative discharge processes for individuals with eating disorders.

What will you bring to the role

  1. Accredited post-graduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology and full registration as Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency AHPRA and endorsement in the area of Clinical Psychology, or eligibility to progress to endorsement.
  2. Post-graduate experience in the provision of mental health practice, including conducting mental health psychological assessments, diagnosis, formulation, and the provision of evidence-based psychological interventions for people who are experiencing eating disorders and comorbidities at high levels of complexity and severity.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of disordered eating, body image and related social and cultural issues associated with the development of eating disorders and demonstrated knowledge of innovative public health and community interventions to address the development and treatment of eating disorders.
  4. Demonstrated experience in liaising, consulting on medical and/or mental health issues with health professionals e.g. GP’s, Nurses, Allied Health, involved in the management and treatment of psychological disorders.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge and willingness to undertake relevant training in evidence-based therapeutic models for effective treatment of eating disorders including Maudsley Family-Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for individuals or in groups.
  6. Demonstrated experience in and application of, quality improvement principles and research.
  7. Demonstrated excellent communication skills, interpersonal, verbal and written and the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
