Our Trans and Gender Diverse Health Service is supported by the Statewide Trans and Gender Diverse Service and based in Newcastle. We provide specialist, evidence-based care to transgender and gender diverse children, adolescents and their families.
The service is delivered by a multidisciplinary team (MDT) including nursing, psychiatry, social work, psychology, speech pathology, paediatric and adult endocrinology, dietetics, adolescent medicine, GP specialists with incredible administrative support. Our clinicians are deeply committed to thoughtful, patient-centred, and reflective practice in a complex and evolving field.
About the Role - A Day in the Life
This is a specialised role requiring strong clinical psychology foundations and a genuine interest in gender and trans health.
Your work will include:
- Direct clinical care (face-to-face and telehealth)
- Comprehensive psychological assessments, including gender dysphoria assessments
- Independent clinical formulation, diagnosis, and intervention
- Report writing and consultancy to families and health professionals
- Active participation in MDT, clinical review meetings, and case discussions
- Providing expert clinical perspectives to inform patient-centred service planning
- Evaluating therapy outcomes using standardised measures and adapting interventions to maximise outcomes
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and clinical research
- Supporting governance processes and innovative models of care
You will exercise independent clinical judgement while ensuring care is delivered within professional, organisational, legal, and ethical boundaries, reflecting practice-based evidence.
This role offers genuine scope for an experienced clinician to influence practice standards, support collaborative case formulation, and help shape the ongoing evolution of the service.

What You’ll Bring
- AHPRA registered as a Clinical Psychologist
- Experience in complex assessment, formulation, and therapeutic intervention
- Confidence exercising independent clinical judgement within an MDT setting
- Commitment to ethical, patient-centred care
- Interest and/or experience in gender dysphoria and working with transgender and gender diverse populations
- Strong report writing and communication skills
- A commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement
